Does The Sole E35 Measure Up?

Sole E35Products from Sole Fitness have been figuring in ‘Best Buy’ lists for a long time now, and they are considered by many to be a formidable player in the home exercise equipment segment. The Sole E35 elliptical trainer, just like other exercise equipments, has also been rated a number of times as a ‘Best Buy’, but does it deserve such a high listing?

I noticed the importance of choosing the right elliptical trainer for home use, and I also realized that a lot of people were making the wrong decisions because they did not know enough about a particular model. So I decided to do some research on the best elliptical trainers out there, and what better place to start than the Sole E35 Trainer?

Sole E35 Trainer- Features

The Sole E35 Trainer is a full-body workout machine, which means that it does not just target your lower body like your average elliptical trainer. The combination of handle and pedal movements gives you a total body workout, and affects your arms, shoulders and other upper body muscle groups. The flywheel is a hefty 25 pounds, which is one of the most striking features of the elliptical trainer. The high gear ratio is not found in most elliptical trainers, and the drive system muffles most of the sound, which makes the Sole E35 Trainer one of the quietest trainers around.

Sole also has a power incline. This keeps the workout challenging by increasing resistance. In addition, the power incline also targets other muscle groups which would otherwise not have been targeted by a regular elliptical trainer workout. The ramp can be inclined to a maximum of 30 degrees with the power incline, and the angle can be adjusted with a pretty simple button push.

The 6.5 inch vibrant blue LCD display gives you important details about your workout, like resistance level, distance, time, pulse and calories burned. You also have built-in speakers so that you can listen to tracks from your mp3 player, a bottle holder, and cooling fans attached to the trainer.

Sole E35Apart from all these features, there are some other small but essential features that add to the quality of the workout. The oversized and customized foot pedals give you a very minor 2 degree slope inwards. While this may seem miniscule, it plays a very important role in reducing the stress on your ankles and knees. This is not just a universal setting, though. You can choose between three settings that can change the footpads and suit different people with different gaits or positions.

The Advantages:

1.   Quiet running: What makes an elliptical trainer worthwhile is its ability to work smoothly and quietly. Nobody likes to run on a jerky, noisy, and clunky elliptical trainer- at least not regularly. The Sole E35 is actually really quiet thanks to its build quality.

2.   Smoothness: Another aspect that makes an elliptical trainer a hit, as mentioned above, is its ability to run without jerks or clunks. The big and solid flywheel is heavy enough to withstand the shaking that can happen when you begin to exercise on high resistance levels and really start to push and pull on the machine’s pedals and handles. No matter what you throw at it, this thing is steady as a rock.

3.   A good stride length– The stride length for most people is around 20 inches, which is what the Sole E35 Trainer gives you. Most other lower grade trainers have a stride length of 17 to 18 inches.

4.  A good heart rate monitor This is probably one of the biggest plus points, especially for serious fitness enthusiasts. Trainers that cost a bomb compared to the Sole E35 and are equipped with heart monitor sensors can sometimes show faulty readings due to the movement of your hands. The only way to solve this is to get a chest strap, which is readily provided along with the E35.

Customer Reviews…

I read quite a bit of reviews from customers and here’s some of the more recent ones:

“My wife and I wanted this for a long time. Finally got it and am not disappointed. Its a tad pricey for a consumer model but when you finally ride it you can see why—its as good as many pro models. Its solidly built, logical in design and does what it is made to do, give you an outstanding workout.”

“I have owned mine for 2years now. Used almost daily by 2 people. Stays smooth and quiet, you just wipe it down and oil it (lube provided) and she’s perfect. Dint regret the purchase at all ever!”

“Delivery was as expected, be sure to have available as unit is very heavy. Went together easily and runs quiet. I would definitely buy this unit again”

“This is a great product. I use it every day and it has quiet operation. I am able to really get into the workout without feeling as if I am going to break the machine.”

“I love this machine; it’s very comfortable to exercise with (I’m very tall and very heavy) and easy to use. The simple display is easy to use without reading a manual. The adjustable foot beds are a feature I wish gym machines had, as they prevent numbness and foot strain. It’s very ergonomic, as Consumer Reports says, and a smooth ride. (The only downside is that a screw that I didn’t tighten enough lead to a clanking noise, and I had to re-tighten after assembly.) “

Sole E35The Disadvantages

The volume capability of the inbuilt speakers of the Sole E35 Elliptical trainer are not as loud as it could be, but then, nobody really buys an elliptical trainer to blast out stage quality songs. You can always use your headphones for listing to music, which is an easy fix and is also more comfortable.

The Bottom Line

The Sole E35 Trainer is a beauty, with enough useful features available at an attractive price. The resistance levels are enough to get anyone pumped up, and the smooth and quiet functioning of this machine is a sheer pleasure.
